Missouri Foxtrotter Ponies

When the Missouri Foxtrotter Horse Breed Association (MFTHBA) opened a new registry for ponies, I couldn't wait to raise a pony of my own. I have had MFT horses for several years and raised gaited mules from them so I knew this was going to be an awesome cross. The MFT is a breed of smooth, diagonally gaited horses that can do it all. A relatively young breed, compared to breeds that have been registered for centuries, this breed has a colorful history that includes some of the best horses from those older breeds. In the beginning, any horse that could prove that it could foxtrot could be included in the open books. After a time, the books were closed and this breed began to flourish on it's own merits. The MFT is as equally at home on trails as well as a family horse, in the show ring, ridden Western and English, driven, cow working and more. Only a horse with the MFT's temperament, intelligence, willingness and overall conformation could do all the things these horses can do. And, they do it all with a smoothness that has brought people into the breed since it's conception. The Missouri Foxtrotting Pony is a breed for our next generation of MFT owners. They will meet the needs of children as well as the smaller adults. The older I get the more I appreciate a smaller horse myself and these ponies will be quite nice for driving as well. The MFT ponies will range from 44 inches to 14 hands and they may be of any color. They are required to be DNA'd to verify parentage and they will also be required to "prove" they can foxtrot to get their permanent registration papers. I am one of just a small handful of MFT Pony breeders so while you may be chomping at the bit for your own pony like I was, please be patient as we work to develop the ponies that are the foundation of the Missouri Foxtrotting Pony Registry. Please check out the link to the MFTPR site below. I would encourage anyone interested in buying a MFT Pony from me or anyone else to know the facts and be certain you know what you are buying. Some ponies may not meet the qualifications at age 5 and will lose their papers if they don't meet them all. We will have MFT ponies for sale in 2008 as weaned foals.
